Sealants

Whilst car detailing initially would have simply meant waxing your vehicle after polishing modern synthetic compounds have enabled the creation of special sealants that provide longer term protection and enhanced durability against the elements compared to traditional wax based products. Many choose to use both sealant and wax when car detailing and they have both become a vital step of the cleaning and protecting process that ensures your vehicle is kept in pristine condition.

One unique feature of paint sealants that you can use when car detailing is that they will also offer additional protection from the effects of pollution and also from the bleaching and decaying effects of UV rays from the sun, two things of vital importance when considering how long your paint and finish will last before fading and needing re-spraying. Modern car detailing sealants are supplied in a liquid form and can simply be applied to clothes & wipes to be used on the paint of your vehicle after you have finished polishing and glazing. Some car detailing sealants are provided in two parts, the sealant itself and what is known as an "accelerator" that must be mixed with the sealant before it is used.

It is vital that your car is properly cleaned, clayed and polished before you apply car detailing sealant as if it is applied over stains or any other form of contamination that prevents it from forming a protective layer around your vehicle properly it will not be effective on that spot and can lead to rust spots when the harmful effects of the weather, pollution and UV take their toll. Many car detailing specialists apply wax after sealant; this is because wax offers less protection but many prefer the finish offered by wax, however once the vehicle has been waxed it cannot be properly sealed again without removing all of the remaining wax.
